Janessa has a Bachelor of Kinesiology with an Honours Specialization in Fitness & Exercise Prescription, that she acquired in Canada before venturing to Australia to complete her Doctor of Physiotherapy degree.
She began her career in a sports medicine and orthopedic private practice while also volunteering with children who have differing abilities.
Janessa is passionate about treating infants, toddlers, and kids with neurological challenges as well as musculoskeletal injuries. In the past, she has run clinical pilates classes, running clinics, and hydrotherapy sessions. Rehabilitating atypical biomechanics and enhancing the development of functional motor milestones, using play, is Janessa’s favourite way to spend the workday.
When Janessa is not in the clinic you can find her wandering the backcountry with whitewater paddling, ski touring, and horseback riding being her preferred modes of access. As a physiotherapist, Janessa has a special interest in using hippotherapy, the movement of the horse, as a tool for improving foundational motor skills, particularly for children with neurological conditions.
She also has an extensive background in outdoor recreation and education and wilderness first aid. Janessa says getting creative, and helping kids and parents to achieve their goals, is what brings joy to her day.
