Kindergarten Readiness

Join Pediatric Physiotherapists to learn about age-appropriate milestones, skills to support kindy fun, and when to get extra help!

When we talk about Kindergarten readiness, most people think about things like academics and social skills. However, as pediatric physiotherapists, we are also focused on the way that movement skills and physical literacy are hugely important for these kiddos and can have a big impact on their kindergarten experience!

Kindergarten is a big adjustment in so many ways,

  • Long days – require mental AND physical endurance
  • Sitting abilities
  • Participating in structured physical education class with peers at all different levels of physical and motor skills
  • Outdoor/playground play
  • Writing and other fine motor skills
  • Putting on shoes, toileting, eating lunch, and other activities of daily living that require fine and gross motor control

And more…

Children entering kindergarten will encompass a WIDE range with regard to their motor skills and physical literacy, and that is OK! We want to empower families to create an environment at home and school to help all kids meet their maximum physical potential and have a wonderful kindergarten experience.
