Kids Physio Experience Book

How do you communicate positive experience to a child with special needs? Adapting the world around us to meet the needs of children is often a challenge.

This “Physio Experience Book” is the perfect example of how to remind children with special needs of their positive physiotherapy experience. It uses specific cues such as texture, colour and images to spark positive memories of Kids Physio.

This book belongs to a young girl who is classified as deaf blind. The book helps her remember the feeling of being at physio and reminds her of the routine she follows weekly. It allows her to remember what type of exercises she does at Kids Physio and who she interacts with. The book contains pictures of her Physiotherapist, Laura, as well as Laura’s dog Gallagher. Visual cues like these help her feel more comfortable at physio and help her know what to expect when she arrives.

As two dimensional pictures are not easy for her to see, the book also contains physical objects from Kids Physio. Tactile objects such as toys, floor texture and swing texture are included in this book . As seen in the picture on the right, the book also contains words in sign language that are commonly used at Kids Physio.

Creating a tactile experience book is a fun and rewarding experience. Bookmaking is one of the most satisfying literacy experiences you can share with your child. The process of creating a book promotes oral language and fine motor skills, while developing many important literary concepts.

It’s so great to see all these evidence-based strategies being used in your clinic. I love how open you and your staff are to these ideas and how you do whatever it takes to make each child’s experience successful and meaningful to them. Keep it coming!!!

Please tell me the make of Back Pack for children.

I have been looking as much as time allows for back packs like the ones you showed with the children.

So far, I haven’t been able to find any.

I daycare 3 grandchildren full time so haven’t a lot
    of time to shop around.

Please, also tell me where I can purchase 2 of them
in the Lower Mainland, preferably Richmond area.

    Thank you
